Five of us and a pillion met at Pomeroy’s last week and set off for Waikawa and as the weather improves we ride further! The weather was bright and sunny but blustery and we rode to Waikawa for lunch via Queen Charlottes Drive, the return was a little different as we were then heading directly into the wind and it certainly kept our attention being blown around. We did 270 kms 122 on the way out and 148 on the way back via Rapura Road although I think Mike came back over QCD. As we went over the hill last week we should go over the hill again but to Takaka this time meeting at Pomeroy’s at 11 am on Wednesday (12th Sept). We can have a couple of options on the route there the longer route out to Kohatu and down the Motueka Highway or down the Coastal Highway for a shorter route although the shorter is 93 kms and the longer 154 kms so quite a bit longer. I shall be going the shorter option as my pillion was walking funny for a while after last weeks ride!!
If your intending to come along leave a note on here.

A good ride today with five of us meeting at Pomeroy's and four going over the hill to Takaka for lunch. The road was good with virually no sign of grit and as it was the first time after the winter it is easily forgotten how good the roads are, even on a Harley. New BOF John Bennet joined us so welcome John we'll look forward to seeing you again soon.

September 12th ride report.
Five rode from Pomeroy’s where Trevor came down for a coffee and to see us off. Paul was dropping off at Mot for a prior engagement while we rode the Upper Moutere Highway, Motueka Highway and the West Bank to reach Takaka Hill. I was pleasantly surprised to find virtually no grit over the hill and the temperature at the top was 6 degrees but no finger chill to report, there is one area on the southern side where the road is begining to break up leaving lots of stone so take care if you are heading that way. New BOF John, welcome John, lost us getting stuck behind a truck but continued onto the Wholemeal Cafe, we had a short stop to check out Henry’s front brake which had picked up a vibration at low speed but four of us lunched after a great ride over the hill. A total of 130 kms there and I came back up the Coastal Highway, after stopping on the hill to take a picture, for another 96 for the day totalling 220 kms. Its always pleasing to ride over the hill with most vehicles pulling over to let us by or just making it easier I even had a police officer let me by on the way back, good man, or was he checking my plate!!
